The School

Located in the north of the city, our TESOL training centre in Bangkok is well-placed for you to make the most of your time with us. Nearby is Thailand’s largest and third oldest university, Kasetsart University, as well Bangkok’s famous “Elephant Building” a thirty-two storey skyscraper in the shape of an elephant. We are also close to The Avenue Ratchayothin, home to a Major Cineplex cinema and a number of boutique restaurants, fast food outlets, banks and much more.

Nearby, you will find the world famous Chatuchak Weekend Market where over 8,000 vendors sell everything under the sun. The less well know Or Tor Kor market is the ideal place to stock up on fresh fruits, vegetables, meat and seafood. If you don’t feel like cooking yourself, there is a food court where you can buy delicious and cheap local meals. The market was listed as the fourth best fresh market in the world by CNNGo. The recent BTS Sky Train extension has seen the opening of the new Ratchayothin station, which is only some 300 meters from our training center. This station is on the original ‘green’ line which links directly to Sukhumvit and Silom roads—traditional business, commercial and entertainment centers of Bangkok.

The training centre itself provides all you’ll need during the course. We are based in a three storey building in a pleasant open air mall with a school and computer based test centre as well as management offices and reception area. There is Wi-Fi available throughout the training centre. There is a supermarket as well as a stationary store located in the same mall.

Accommodation

As a major tourist destination and travel hub for the region, there is a wide range of accommodation available in Bangkok to suit all tastes and budgets. The choice includes but is not limited to hotels and guesthouses with studio apartments and condos available for long term rent.

The type of facilities available depends on the price of the apartment but a reasonably priced studio would generally include air conditioning, refrigerator and Wi-Fi.

Our TESOL training centre in Bangkok works with local accommodation providers to offer our course participants special monthly rates. Once you have made the initial course deposit payment confirming your place on the course, we will send you further information about the accommodation options available to you. Please feel free to let us know if you have any questions or special requests and we will try to assist you.

Of course you do not have to arrange your accommodation through us and are free to book your accommodation independently. As noted above, there is a wide range of options available and there are plenty of websites advertising hotel and guesthouse rooms as well as apartment and house rentals.

Frequently Asked Questions

˙
  • What are my payment options?

    Expand white line

Course deposits must be paid to our administrative center. The fastest and cheapest way to pay is by credit or debit card, but we also accept payments via Pay Pal and bank transfer. While there are no deadlines for paying the deposit, our courses can fill up quickly and your seat will only be reserved after the deposit has been paid.

Once the deposit has been paid, you will receive an email with an informational packet that provides detailed information about the course and Bangkok itself.

The balance of the course fees is payable in cash, by credit/debit card or traveler’s check. The balance is due on the first day of your course.

Course fees are all inclusive and you will not be asked to pay additional costs towards course related materials and services. This also includes course moderation and accreditation fees, lifetime job assistance and all our basic services.

  • What are my accommodation options?

    Expand white line

We have established good relationships with local providers offering special rates on monthly stays for our trainees and you will find that all recommended accommodation is conveniently located and is clean, comfortable and safe.

Options vary in price and facilities so that you are sure to find something to suit your needs. Further information on the available options will be sent once your place on the course has been confirmed by paying the course deposit. Feel free to let us know if you have any special requests or require any other assistance in making a booking, we will be more than happy to give all the help we can. If you would rather arrange your own accommodation, please feel free to do so.

  • What travel documents will I need for Thailand?

    Expand white line

You will need a passport that’s still has at least 6 months validly before expiration.

As for entry into Thailand, you have two easy options (and other not as easy ones). The first is a Visa Exemption (VE). For visitors from most countries you will get a VE for 30 days. The VE is free on arrival and there is no paperwork involved. You just need to enter Thailand through an airport, which means a major port like Bangkok. (You won’t get a 30 day VE if you come overland through a neighboring country.)

VEs can be extended for an additional 30 days for a THB 1,900 fee.

Your other easy option is to enter Thailand on a 60 day Tourist Visa, which can be obtained from your local Thai embassy.

The advantage of a Tourist Visa over the VE approach is that a Tourist Visa can be changed into a visa that can be used for work. If you have a VE, you will eventually have to leave Thailand to secure the appropriate visa to work under.

    * Please note visa information is subject to change at any time. Please contact your local Thai consulate or embassy for updated information and the latest requirements.

  • What is the course schedule?

    Expand white line

Classes start at 10:00 a.m. Monday to Friday. During the day trainees will learn classroom management, grammar, language and culture and other practical aspects of the course.

    Lunch is between 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.

The hours between 2:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. are spent preparing lessons with the assistance of the instructors and then afterward in the afternoon or early evening - from either 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. or 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. trainees teach their lessons to Thai students.

You will receive immediate feedback from the instructors after your observed lesson. You will not be teaching every afternoon, but you teach six to eight hours of observed teaching practice over the 4-week course.

On Friday, trainees are free after 1:00 p.m. and your weekend is also free.

This course is demanding. You will need to spend time after class and on weekends preparing teaching materials and completing various assignments.

  • What can I expect during teaching practice?

    Expand white line

Your observed teaching practice will typically take place with students aged 12 and over. Classses can range from one-to-one sessions to classrooms of 20 students. Your classes will be based on a real teaching curriculum.

Thai students are usually very friendly but can be somewhat shy. They can also be keen and enthusiastic to learn English and our trainee teachers usually have a very positive experience.

You will also have the opportunity to select and/or create your own teaching materials. You will have a lot of help in doing this and receive continuous input from your course trainer. You also get immediate feedback on your lesson after you deliver it. Your “practicum” will be assessed and documented. A satisfactory assessment is required to earn your TEFL/TESOL certificate.

  • Who can attend the TEFL course? Do I need to be native English speaker?

    Expand white line

To enrol on our course you need to be at least 18 years old. We do not have a maximum age limit, but you need to bear in mind that some institutions may not employ teachers beyond a certain age.

Course attendees do not need to be native English speakers but do need to be fluent in English. We consider fluency to be at least the C1 level on the CEFR scale of language proficiency.

  • Is there a dress code?

    Expand white line

For all input and tutorial sessions at the training location, there is no dress code.

During teaching practice there are specific requirements that adhere to the local dress code. All trainees are expected to dress professionally according to the following guidelines:

Women: Shoulders should be covered, blouses with sleeves are suggested. No low-cut necklines, very short skirts or bare midriffs. Open-toed shoes are acceptable, but not hiking or flip-flop sandals.

Men: Long pants, slacks or trousers are required, jeans are not acceptable. Short or long-sleeved shirts with a collar are necessary, although a tie is recommended. Loafers or dress shoes are both fine, sandals are not acceptable. Long hair should always be tied back.

No visible tattoos or facial piercings are allowed.

  • What should I bring for course studies?

    Expand white line

All course materials are provided by us.

The only things you need to bring are a notebook and a pen.

Please feel free to bring your laptop and/or any internet device you have as we have free Wi-Fi on all floors of our training center.

  • What documents do I need for finding employment after the course?

    Expand white line

While not a requirement by all schools, it’s a good idea to bring your degree, course transcripts and any other relevant qualifications particularly if they relate to teaching.

Originals are better than copies, but copies usually work in most situations. You may wish to have access to the originals, to save you having to go home to get them or wait for them to be sent to you.

You will receive your original TEFL Certificate from us upon successful completion of the course.

  • Do I need a degree to teach in Thailand?

    Expand white line

The answer to this is sometimes “Yes” and sometimes “No” depending on where you want to work.

There are many different types of employers of English teachers in Thailand. Universities, public and private schools, private tutoring schools and language institutes and private situations between a teacher and a student(s).

The Ministry of Education (MoE) does require foreign teachers to have degrees. Primary and secondary schools, both public and private, will require a bachelor’s degree in any major and your TEFL certificate.

Having said, that, there are many situation that don’t fall under the MoE’s jurisdiction. Teaching in one of Bangkok’s thousands of language schools does not require a degree. That’s a decision that will depend on the hiring authority.

Keep in mind that if you don’t have a degree, your TEFL certification becomes even more important because it demonstrates that you have the necessary training to be effective in the classroom.
