Understandably referred to as the “Pearl of the Andaman Sea”, Phuket (pronounced Poo-ket) is the largest and one of the most beautiful islands in Thailand. With activities and things to do for every kind of person, there is perhaps no better location in Thailand to take a TESOL course. Located off the south-west coast of Thailand, Phuket can be found in the beautiful waters of the Andaman Sea. While classed as an island, Phuket is joined to the mainland through the Sarasin Bridge. Phuket has justifiably become world renowned as a haven for water sports and a tropical paradise.

Although perhaps most famously known for its dream-like lengths of white sandy beaches, gently met by the crystal clear, warm Andaman Sea, Phuket can offer a wide variety of terrain. With forested cliffs and mountains forming a breathtaking backdrop, you can discover the island’s numerous waterfalls, and an array of fauna and flora.

Phuket is a lot more than its breathtaking scenery and beaches; it is also able to offer a huge variety of activities and entertainment, attractions, water-sports and nightlife. The vast array of things to do is probably unmatched anywhere else in Thailand.

For those who like to be in the crystal clear waters, Phuket has world famous snorkeling and diving facilities, sea kayaking, kite and windsurfing. Phuket also offers hiking through the tropical rainforests, bungee jumping, horseback riding and of course elephant trekking amongst the wide range of activities available to experience.

Situated close to the Equator, Phuket is a tropical island and boast warm/hot temperatures 12 months a year. The hottest months are usually between November and March, though this only varies slightly throughout the year. The days are either hot and sunny or hot and rainy, but temperatures are made pleasant, even on the hottest of days, due to the refreshing sea breeze. Even though Phuket is hugely popular as a tourist destination, there are ample opportunities for you to discover authentic Thai life and culture. The island has many awe inspiring Buddhist temples, and traditional outdoor markets can be found in Phuket Town and the surrounding areas. The world renowned Thai boxing is extremely well represented, and you will have the chance to see world class matches on many nights of the week. Visit one of Phuket’s many malls, which combine international department stores with traditional Thai products, or just enjoy being around the local people. With their peaceful and friendly out look on life, it is easy to see why Thailand is known as the ‘Land of smiles’.

Getting around Phuket is easy and inexpensive due to numerous forms of public transport. Phuket also has an international airport, and is ideally located for visiting neighboring countries such as Mynamar (Burma), Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam. There are also numerous other beautiful provinces for you to visit within Thailand.

Phuket really does have something to please any type of person, and the unbelievably low cost of living here means that taking a TESOL course in this tropical paradise shouldn’t work out to be any more expensive than taking a TESOL course anywhere else.

Thailand, indeed the whole of Asia, has a huge variety of teaching jobs available - some of the best paid jobs in the EFL profession. Of all the places to find employment in this area and to gain a TESOL qualification, Phuket is one most popular destinations.

While there are no deadlines for a deposit, courses can fill up quickly and your seat will only be reserved after the deposit has been paid.

The balance of course fees is payable on the first day of class and can be made with a credit/debit card, cash or traveler’s check.

Fees are all-inclusive so you won’t be asked to pay additional costs for course related materials or services. This also includes course moderation and accreditation fees, airport transfers for qualifying arrivals, lifetime job assistance, a welcome dinner and daily refreshments.

  • What travel documents will I need for thailand?

    Expand white line

It is advised that you enter Thailand on a 60 day Tourist Visa. Applications are cheap and turnaround times are fairly quick. You need to apply for a tourist visa with your nearest Thai embassy. Note that 15-day or 30-day stamps can only be extended by a maximum of seven days without leaving Thailand. Alternatively, some nationals can enter the Kingdom and obtain permission to stay in Thailand for 30 days (by air) or 15 days (over land) upon arrival.*

If you are from a country where visa procedures require a course invitation letter, one will be made available to you immediately after your intent to attend the course has been proven via your deposit payment.

    * As this information is subject to change at any time, we advise you to contact your local consulate for current travel regulations prior to planning your trip. For more information on obtaining visas please check with your local Thai consulate or embassy.

  • What is the course schedule?

    Expand white line

From Monday to Friday, class begins at either 9:00 a.m. or 9:30 a.m. Lunch is taken between 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. On days that you conduct your teaching practice you will plan your lesson between 1:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. and then deliver the lesson from either 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. or from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. These lessons are followed by immediate feedback from the instructors. Friday classes finish at 12:30 p.m. or 3:30 p.m. and the weekend is free.

  • What can I expect during teaching practice?

    Expand white line

Lessons are delivered to students aged 16 years and older. The vast majority of students are Thai but other nationalities do attend some classes. Class size varies from one-to-one lessons up to 16 students. Lessons are based upon real teaching resources found all over the world and you will have the chance to create your own materials as well. You will receive the aid of your course trainer throughout lesson planning and receive immediate feedback on your lesson after it’s been delivered. Practicum is assessed and a satisfactory assessment is required to earn your TEFL/TESOL certificate.

  • Who usually attends the course?

    Expand white line

We average 24 trainees on each course. The majority of trainees are British or American, while many others come from Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Ireland, South Africa and the Philippines. Occasionally, we do get fluent non-native English speakers from Western Europe, Scandinavia, India, China, Thailand, etc. Trainees must be 18 years of age or older and the age range varies greatly depending on the course.

  • Is there a dress code?

    Expand white line

During trainees’ lessons, casual attire is allowed. Thailand can get rather hot so this means sandals, shorts, t-shirts and other loose-fitting clothing, cotton attire is best. During teaching practice, you will need to dress in trousers/skirts and closed-toe shoes. Men need collared shirts, while women need to wear conservative tops that cover their shoulders. Men also need to shave or keep facial hair neatly trimmed. No visible tattoos or facial piercings are allowed while teaching local students.

  • What should I bring for course studies?

    Expand white line

Please be sure to arrive on the first day of the course with a notebook and a pen. We also encourage you to bring a laptop as we have Wi-Fi at the training center. We will provide all course materials for you so there is no need to bring anything else for the course itself.

  • What documents do I need for finding employment after the course?

    Expand white line

If you plan to work in Thailand without returning home before you do so, you will need to bring your original degree (if you have one) and any other teaching qualifications that you might have. While not required by all schools, it is advisable to obtain a local criminal background check and sealed university transcripts as some schools will want to see one, or both of these documents.

  • Do I need a degree to teach in thailand?

    Expand white line

The short answer is no. Thailand’s Ministry of Education (MoE) does require foreign teachers to have degrees, but not all schools fall under the MoE’s jurisdiction. Primary and secondary schools, both public and private, will require degrees as your teacher’s license will need to be approved by the MoE. However, university and corporate work will not require a degree. Teaching in one of Thailand’s thousands of language schools also does not necessarily require a degree. So while some sources fail to truly explore this issue and say degrees are required, you can rest assured, they are not required for all teaching positions around the Kingdom.
