Baltic States TEFL Jobs in Baltic States

These states were the most westernized part of the old Russian Empire and are presently looking towards EU membership. This has created a strong demand for native speaker teachers, particularly in Lithuania and Estonia (probably the most progressive of the three). There are numerous openings in both the state and private sectors. Salaries again are low by international standards but high in regard to the cost of living. Qualified teachers who are prepared to travel to the region and look for work should have little difficulty.

Sample Jobs

1. Teach in a University in Klaipeda, Lithuania

LCC International University seeks TESOL (or equivalent) qualified English language teachers to teach adults and high school students at all levels of English in our English Language Institute. The program provides the teachers with appropriate curriculum materials, teaching resources, and orientation. Students are adult professionals and secondary school students desiring to learn English for job advancement, personal enrichment, preparation for entering LCC, or for education or travel abroad. ELI students are well-educated, eager to learn and serious about their studies. All students pay tuition to attend ELI classes.

Classes run for 12 weeks each semester. Students are tested at the start of the semester and grouped into classes ranging from 12 to 20 people, according to language ability. Classes meet for two hours, twice a week on weekday evenings.

Lithuania has an excellent location in the center of Europe. The college is located in Klaipeda, a major ice-free port city on the Baltic Sea connecting Russian and Western European business and industry.

LCC requires that all ELI instructors have a minimum of a degree, preferably in any of the following areas: general education, foreign or second language teaching methods, (TESOL), linguistics, English, reading or literacy. Instructors preferably have teaching experience, especially teaching English as a foreign or second language.

Contracts range from one semester, to one school year, to several years. Fall semester classes run from mid-August to Christmas, while spring semester classes run from early January through April. All expatriate instructors begin their semester at LCC with a few weeks of orientation.
