As a native english speaker I have never studied grammar to such an extent before. I certainly feel a lot more confident about my ability and I would feel comfortable explaining numerous grammatical principles whereas before I wouldn’t have been able to. This has not only given me confidence to teach english as a second language, but it also ensures I can teach any part of an ESL syllabus effectively.
While I have had some experience in a classroom before, this course has certainly helped to develop my teaching skills and philosophy. The course covered a wide range of teaching theory, facts, ideas, opinions and techniques – all of which I found incredibly useful. Not only did they give me ideas of what to do in the classroom, I also learned much more. Such as how to maintain mutual respect between teachers and students, how to encourage participation, how to correct students, how different people learn and even the different motivations students may have for learning english.
