In this unit I learned that, in a perfect world, teachers would have access to all different types of course materials to support their lessons, however, majority of the time, the teacher will have to create their own course material. This unit covers the different types of course material that a teacher could use in their future classroom. For non-beginners, it is beneficial to use authentic materials because they are based off of something real therefore are more interesting. Created materials are also important because they can be used to grade the level the students are currently at. Having a course book is also a big advantage because it contains content that has been proven successful for teaching English. It is also a reliable source for teachers to pull information from and can offer a course syllabus. Using a course book also allows some flexibility meaning, the teacher doesn't have to teach the course by the letter, they can adapt it to the students needs by using supplemented material and weeding out what isn't needed.
