Prior to the course I had no knowledge of lesson planning or teaching techniques. This course has provided me with the skills needed to be able to plan lessons which will be interesting to the students while also meeting their language needs. Learning the ESA format and how to apply it in various forms to achieve the results needed as been invaluable.
I felt I had a good understanding of english grammar before I started the online course. However, I quickly learned that being able to accurately produce english is not the same as understanding why we use certain forms and tenses. That understanding is crucial if one is to then teach it and I believe this course has now helped me to have a deeper understanding of english and be able to look at it from a learner's point of view.
The course has also opened my eyes to the different types of students there are, not just young learners in schools, but also adults working for companies and individuals wanting one-to-one classes.
I intend to use the english grammar knowledge I have learned, combined with the practical teaching techniques, to go on to the next phase of my learning through observed classes. Ultimately I hope to be able to create interesting and effective lesson plans which will engage students and help them to enjoy english so that they will feel inspired to continue practicing it and learning it long after they have left the classroom.
