This teaching unit involves the teaching of new grammar, vocabulary and it's functions, it gives examples of which ESA structures to use when teaching new grammar and vocabulary (straight arrow), and explains how the ESA boomerang or patchwork structure is often more suitable when teaching the functions of language. The unit makes it clear that this is no hard and fast rule, stressing the fact that an effective teacher must choose the most appropriate structure and it's appropriateness to their student's needs, prior to delivering their lesson.
