When I initially signed up for this TEFL online course with tutor’s assistance, I was unsure of what the flow of this course would actually be like. I quickly learned that a lot of material would be covered within these twenty units starting with the important lesson on roles and responsibilities of both students and teachers within a classroom. On that note I must say that my overall experience taking this course has been quite positive. I learned quite a bit regarding lesson planning, the absolute necessity of planning ones lessons before conducting a class, the necessity of having plenty of back up material ready for a class, usage of different materials to teach and so forth.
Even though I am a native english speaker, learning about various grammar topics we covered in this course has also been quite useful as well. After some difficulty with conditional and reported speech for example, with practice I was able to better understand and master this particular material.
I must also mention that the ESA format in lesson planning I have found to be a quite useful and simple tool in lesson planning and I will most certainly use these formats such as the straight arrow one in my future lesson plans.
I will readily use everything I have learned in this course in the near future hopefully in a real life classroom setting. My plans and again hopes are, to teach a specialized english class such as business english to adult learners. Hopefully this course and certification will help me obtain work either in the usa or abroad in an educational, business or a non-profit setting.
