I have found the course thoroughly enjoyable and rewarding. It’s been hard work, challenging and thought provoking and above all, educational. The course itself is well structured and organized, and together with my on-line tutor, very professionally managed. Thank you!
There are three areas of the course I found particularly interesting:
• Appreciation and awareness of the english grammar system and grammatical structures
• Introduction to phonology
• Teaching receptive and productive skills
Most of this material was either new to me or forgotten, and I enjoyed learning and researching more on these subjects.
The teaching element of the course will be of great value to me and I found it both interesting and informative. The ESA teaching approach is logical, provides a sound framework for lessons and offers flexibility. I now feel much more confident and aware of the ingredients that make up a successful language lesson and what those ingredients entail.
I currently have 2 students whom I teach on a 1 to 1 basis (both are very different in their requirements) and I have recently been assisting in an english class (adult education) here in france where I live. In the short term, I am hoping to do some additional voluntary work in teaching both adults and children in order to gain some valuable work experience and put into practice the theory I have learnt during this course.
My objective is to continue with my studies and complete the certificate in Teaching business english course as this is the area of teaching which interests me most. In the UK I enjoyed a professional, successful and rewarding career before moving to france several years ago. I am sure that my interpersonal skills and experience will lend themselves well to a role in teaching and helping others. In addition, I have experienced (and continue to do so) the frustrations, challenges and rewards faced when learning a new language.
Having had a career break for several years, I am now very much looking forward to the new challenges offered by teaching, particularly as it is centered around people and helping them. Everybody remembers a good teacher in their lives; I want to be one of those remembered!
