The course was very well balanced from grammar rules to teaching techniques. Having to review, or shall I say, relearn, the grammar rules was very valuable and eye-opening. As a native english speaker, it hasn’t been a habit to think about what I say and why, it was a habitual activity. Knowing the grammar rules and how to try to explain them to a foreign language student will be priceless to help them communicate better.
Lesson planning! An important component which does need proper attention and planning to ensure the students are progressing at a good pace, are engaged and motivated.
I think the finesse and quality of teaching will come with experience and exposure to real students. This course has increased my awareness to the important factors of being a teacher and has given me resources to keep focused, get varying materials and be creative when teaching. Now, I need to get hands-on experience by practicing what I have learned within real situations. I plan on volunteering at a language school to start gaining experience. Ultimately, I would like specialize in teaching business english.
