This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
I have been a teacher for the past 9 years. I teach high school students i.e.13 to 16 year old children. Of course even before I enrolled in the course I had been trying to improve my teaching skills continuously using both conventional and unconventional methods. I had no idea what the course would be like but my expectations were pretty high from it. I can say for sure that the experience has exceeded my expectations. I hate being a monotonous teacher and I was in danger of being one. The course has been pretty enlightening in ways more than one. To touch upon a few, I have learnt the importance of effective lesson planning. I also realized that in a language class, TTT should be minimized and STT ought to be maximized. I also understood the travails of students who learn english as a foreign language(jus like my students).I have come to appreciate the fact that the teacher should be gentle and encouraging with the students rather than be demanding. I really enjoyed learning the importance of games, activities, group work in language learning. The sections on discipline, receptive and productive skills have been real eye-openers.
