I have to admit, I think I underestimated the amount of work that I needed to put into this course. However I am really glad I did it. It was very enlightening for me and it opened my eyes to a lot of great teaching ideas.
It has already made me a better teacher as it has provided me with great tips and pointers to use in the classroom. I learned some new ways to interact with the students, motivate them and get them interested.
The 3 things that I think will be most valuable for me are: a) the concept of breaking each lesson into an engage stage, study stage and activate stage. b) The grammar has already helped me a great deal because it has been such a long time since I formally studied grammar myself, that what I did learn previously was very rusty. c) The concepts and practices for lesson planning are very important as well. Although I used lesson plans in the past, mine were not as organized or detailed as what are taught in this course. I particularly like how the template encourages the teacher to plan ahead with a lot of detail and how I am forced to anticipate potential problems for both myself and the students. This gives me the opportunity to come up with possible solutions before they even occur. This type of lesson plan thoroughly prepares you mentally as well as provides you with a type of checklist for various materials needed. This course will definitely make me a more efficient and effective teacher. It has motivated me to keep learning and trying to find new ways to improve my teaching.
