Firstly, it has been a good revision of points of english grammar that I learned some years ago at school. It has also been interesting to learn new aspects and rules of grammar that I’d not considered before. I think that having learned another language and living in another country has already opened my mind to english and language in general, so I benefited more from learning the grammar now than I did when I was younger. I’ve enjoyed considering the different aspects of teaching during the course. I worked for a time as a teaching assistant in the UK, and on arriving in france did a course to learn french which was structured quite like the tefl courses, so it was good to look back on those experiences when considering the teaching lessons. Things always mean more when we have personal experience – good or bad – to refer to. I’m not sure how my teaching career (though that sounds a bit grand as it will only ever be part-time), will develop. In the first instance I will be helping some younger students to improve in their school work so will mostly be teaching on a one-to-one basis. However, I would like to do some class work, possibly with adults, and may investigate that possibility in the future. I will certainly use the general idea of the lesson plans that we’ve been using throughout the course and will structure my lessons to include the engage-study-activate pattern. I will no doubt find some of the references for teaching aids and equipment very useful when trying to source these things. I will also use some of the ideas given in the course as I found many of them to be well thought out and can imagine using them in class or with individuals. More than anything else, I think that doing the course has given me the confidence to go and get on with it. I have been asked many times if I would help out with the teaching of english but didn’t have the confidence in my ability to do so. Now, however, the course has helped me to put shape to the things I know and has given me the know how to put a lesson together. So thank you very much for your support and encouragement.
