I will honestly have to say that I have been pleasantly surprised at what I have gained from taking this course. Even though I am not
certified as an ESL teacher specifically, I have degrees in english and Elementary Education and I have taught internationally with plenty of opportunities to teach ESL in my daily classes. I thought that taking this course was simply something to add to my CV, and I expected it to be boring and redundant.
However, I have actually been challenged in many of the units--specifically the grammar ones!--and I feel like I have learned quite a few things. I feel more confident and adequate in actually teaching grammar like verb tenses and relative clauses, and I am excited that I know I will be a more effective teacher when it comes to my ESL students. Also, I gained a lot of respect for my instructor, Darren, for he consistently gave me relevant and timely feedback and I felt assured that he was not only reading my
work, but he was thinking about it and assessing it. Thank you!
Since I am currently undergoing many transitions in my life right now, I am not actually teaching at the moment. However, once I receive my
certification from
ITTT, I am going to be eagerly applying to some english schools
online. In the coming fall, I hope to be teaching as an ESL teacher in a public or private school in the U.S. Being TESOL/TEFL certified has just opened a few more doors for me in the world, for which I am thankful.
