This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
I have learned many grammatical structures that I use daily but did not necessarily have a name for. I have learned effective ways to teach these structures to differing levels and age groups. I have learned proper lesson planning and structure as well as activities for the classroom. I now have knowledge of testing procedures and the importance of evaluating. I believe I can apply what I now know about these things in a classroom setting.
The most important things I take away from this course apply directly to my competency as a teacher. Having learned and sometimes struggled through grammatical lessons, as a native english speaker, I believe that I am well equipped to empathize with my future students. I feel that this will help me build rapport, remain patient and understanding, and be encouraging to my students.
This is all very basic to all a teacher does and is to his/her students. There is certainly much to be learned as I become experienced in the field, but this course has definitely given me a fantastic base as well as confidence in what I will provide as a teacher!
