The course is very informative and useful in many ways.
1. It helps revise and reinforce my understanding on grammar structure.
2. it gives me a better understanding of students’ ability and their motivation to learn. Therefore, I need to adjust my teaching method to suit individual’s interest, needs and motivation.
3. it provides a very good teaching technique.
I have been teaching english to migrants and refugees through the Canberra Institute of Technology’s and the Migrants and Refugees Settlement Service’s home tutoring programs. I have been doing it on a voluntary basis even before I retired in 2011. I will continue to help with the programs because there is always a shortage of tutors in the ACT. The technique of teaching from this course will be useful.
thailand is becoming part of the Asian Economic community. People who can communicate well in english will have an advantage over people who don’t. So, the poverty gap will be widened with this movement. I would like to volunteer to teach students at one of the Klong Toey slum’s public schools if the Thai Ministry of Education will allow me to do it. I have already contacted one of the Permanent Secretaries, but nothing is finalised yet.
I also want to teach in a class-room situation at CIT for the Adult Migrant english Program, but I’m not sure whether or not being a non-native english will be an obstacle.
