This course has proved to be a rewarding and enlightening experience. It has been somewhat challenging at times particularly with regards to the dissection of tense formation, which I encountered for the very first time and has taught me many new concepts of the english language. I have gained a considerable insight into teaching english effectively, particularly by means of lesson planning and adopting different approaches to various lessons. Having no previous teaching experience, I now feel well equipped and confident to cope with any situation which may arise in the classroom. It has been interesting learning about the importance of visually enhancing lessons, by way of gestures, games, prompts, video
and pictures, in order to emphasize and create fun and engaging lessons, making students comfortable and adding an element of creativity to the learning environment. The engage, study and activate phases of lesson planning throughout the course, has been beneficial and have all been interesting to explore further and I now fill confident in terms of organizing and structuring lessons. Anticipated problems for students and teachers are also important factors and were not something I had considered prior to beginning this course. Overall I was impressed with the aspects of content and classroom management, where the video in Unit 10 provided me with a practical outlook on different modes of teaching, showing exactly what was notably acceptable and inacceptable when teaching in a classroom.
I am now excited to implement everything I have learnt on this course, and put it into practice with regards to future teaching opportunities. I am currently in the process of using my knowledge and skills to teach english on a voluntary level, work
ing with non-profit organizations in thailand
, providing me with invaluable experience and confidence to then look for permanent paid work in international schools.
