This unit is about the four sub-tenses of the past tense. In my opinion, it is all very similar in conjugation to the present tense except that the auxiliary verbs are now in the past tense! Of course the usages of the perfects and continuous are different. Past perfect gives clarification about or at a point of time in the past. Since past continuous is about an action that started in the past and ended before the present, past perfect continuous is about actions that had started and gone on continuously up to a point in the past. Its interesting that the usage of the past perfects is much more exact in its usage. I feel that present perfects can have more variation in meaning.
