There are many different methods to approach teaching English, many with different pros and cons and of course each has strengths according to the types of students. Since I from my own language learning experience believe that context and being able to understand are the most important aspects, I am most interested in the lexical and communicative approach. For example, if I were dropped off in a foreign country and had to find my way back, I would want to focus on being understood much more than I would care about sounding silly by using improper grammar. Eventually I would clue into grammatical concepts through practice and wanting to be better understood. This does not mean that other techniques and aspect of language should be ignored in the the classroom, it just speaks to what I believe to be a priority. Grammar drills are necessary but alone can be quite boring.
