I used to hate when my teacher would call on the student pointedly avoiding eye contact but it makes sense to do so as the teacher. Eye contact, engage all of the students. Gesture, reduce talking time and convey meanings. Project with clarity. KNOW THEIR NAMES; it's very disheartening when your teacher doesn't know your name but knows your neighbor's name. Grouping and class arrangement depends on age, activity, number of kids, and room available. Don't leave the class staring at your back while you write on the board, it's boring, rude, and shows you're unprepared. Increase STT and decrease TTT for the most part. Respond to problem behavior quickly and reasonably. Rapport makes everything easier. Use simple and clear instructions with thought to their language level.
