Of course I gained a refresher course in english. I found myself saying, “I should know that. I remember studying that in school.” I also found myself learning things that I did not know. Several times I wished my high school teachers had structured the lessons like this course has.
The one thing that stands out for me in this course is the theory of running a class. I have learned everything from writing a lesson plan to how to deal with problem students. I thought I knew how I would structure a class, but this course have given me the tools that I need to do so. I never would have thought to pair quick learners with students who were having trouble with the lesson. I never thought of re-arranging the seating order of the class to stop disciplinary problems before they could start.
When I first decided that I was going to go back to the classroom as a teacher I was very nervous about the idea. To tell the truth I am still a little nervous. Forming a human beings education, and being responsible in part for their attitudes towards a subject is a daunting responsibility. Now that I have taken this course I have no doubt that I am up to the challenge.
