This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
I have learned so much from this course. In particular, I will definitely be using the lesson plan format to help guide how I structure my classes. Understanding the activities involved in ESA lessons and how they build off one another will help me keep my lessons on target and balanced between engaging the students, having them study, and activating their skills. I think in the past, I have been so concerned with study activities that I forgot you need to get students interested first and eventually have them activate what they know in a creative manner. I also greatly appreciate the refresher on english grammar, particularly the phrasal verbs, conditionals, and huge range of tenses. I sometimes forget how tricky our language really is when you think about it. I will also definitely be using the 3X3 rule in the drilling process, which I had never considered before. It makes sense to allow students three chances to correct their own language and then testing a few students on the spot to keep them trying hard. I have definitely gained confidence in the idea of going to a foreign country to teach english and I appreciate all the resources provided to me through this course. I have already made a hard copy that I can take with me to refer back to.
