This was a very interesting unit because I feel this is a difficult area to teach. We focused on the productive skills of language, speaking and writing. Motivation for these was outlined and it was stressed that for students to be motivated, it is important to have content that is of interest and purpose to the students. It gave examples of different types of activities such as controlled and creative communication activities and how they differ based on how in control the teacher should be. I found the tips for interaction quite useful, such as utilizing pair and group work, as well as giving time to think before speaking. Also that games are useful and not just a time killer.
