This unit touched on the topic of evaluating and testing students’ language skills. There are different types of tests with different purposes that can be used to suit different purposes. A placement or diagnostic test can be administered to new students to gauge their English level before the start of a course. A progress test can be administered to check on their overall progress during a course. Lastly, a practice test can be administered to help students' prepare for their final exam. Other external tests, like IELTS or TOEFL, are also increasingly being pursued for qualifications and teachers may capitalize by organizing prep classes for such tests.
