In this unit, the focus was on the theories, methods, and techniques of learning. Students can effectively learn from teachers if the teacher can activate the correct methods of learning to help the students understand the new concept. In this unit, the particular methods of learning included grammar-translation, audio-lingualism, presentation, practice, and production, task-based learning, communicative language teaching, community language learning, the silent way, suggestopaedia, and the lexical approach. In addition, we learned about the ESA method - the Engage, Study, and Activate methodology to teaching. When we teach students, it is important to be able to effectively engage them into the topic of learning, enforce the understanding of the construction of the language during the study phase, and allow them to activate their understanding through role-playing or an alternative activity that shows their understanding of how to use the new language learned.
