I learned there are many different theories of teaching english as a foreign language. Although all theories have positive and negative attributes the one I should focus on is the "ESA" method(Engage, Study, Activate). By Using the engage stage we warm up the students with a game, music, or pictures. This allows the student to get comfortable speaking and breaks the ice. After the students are warmed up then it is time to teach new concepts, vocabulary, structure in the study stage. The study stage is also a time when correction may be used and worksheets are a great resource during this portion of the lesson. The last stage is the activate stage. This stage focuses on using the language to become more fluent. This can be done by games, role play, and practicing with each other.
