In this unit, I have learned that lesson planning is an integral part of teaching new students. However, a balance between planning and flexibility within the classroom must be maintained. Too much planning can tend to be too focused on the teacher. On the other hand, too little planning is may present problems to a new instructor who has minimal experience teaching. It is helpful to make notes & fill out lesson plans that provide general guidance and awareness of potential problems. Having an understanding of what you hope your students to achieve during a lesson will help your instruction flow in a specific direction. A working document can help you have something to refer to during the lesson, although not too much emphasis should be placed maintaining a rigid structure within the classroom. A lesson plan is a useful record of what your class has done and what materials have been used. Providing you with a point of reference for future plans, as well as providing another instructor with information should you be absent.
