This unit was a bit different than the others, but nonetheless provided some helpful information about the positive and negative aspects of using a course book. Using a course book to accompany teaching can bring more consistency to teaching, but it can also become predictable. If using a course book, it is best to omit information that is not suitable for the class, modify or adapt material to the needs of the students, add supplemental materials that can make lessons more interesting, and replace materials with more suitable materials. All of this must be done with a focus on the specific class, meaning a teacher must be caring and aware of the students' interests, abilities, strengths and weaknesses. Sometimes, it is better not to use any course book if this better meets the needs of the class.
