The Unit 10 demonstrates 2 videos of ESA class taught to Thai students.
The teacher from the first video makes several errors throughout the class. His attitude towards the students is disdainful, his speech is unclear, he often points on someone's mistakes and judges the group. His instructions and explanations were deficient and scant, so the students found it hard to understand the lesson point. As the result, the group didn't participate well, the students were confused and disengaged.
By contrast, the teacher from the second video managed to establish good rapport with the class. He often smiled and praised his students. He addressed each student by his or her name and drew everyone's attention to the subject. The teacher had a positive and engaging attitude in the second lesson and, as the result, the students responded with a high level of participation during Activate activity.
The demonstration of these 2 videos shows that the attitude the teacher comes into class with plays the crucial role in the success of the lesson and building rapport within the group.
