Unit 18 covered a number of grammar concepts, most of which are most applicable for more advanced students. Modal auxiliary verbs are complicated because they can express so many different things and hold vastly different meanings depending on the context. Passive voice is complicated because of the verb "to be", which takes on so many different forms. Additionally, it can be difficult to understand when passive voice is more natural or when active voice is the better option. Relative clauses can help students add complexity to their writing and speaking. Lastly, phrasal verbs can be especially difficult for students to learn because of the importance of the participle. Therefore, the unit suggested teaching these as vocabulary words instead of a grammatical structure.
