Watching these two videos really demonstrated the effect the teacher's attitude has on a class. The first lesson was almost unbearable to watch. He did not give the students clear explanations or instructions, and was very brash and rude brushing off student's comments - no wonder they were not comfortable contributing. It was a confusing lesson. During the second lesson he made eye contact, introduced himself, smiled, learned their names and involved all the students. The students appeared to enjoy the class, and participated. He used their names, and got them to interact with one another. He made sure they understood the lesson point. Seeing the two contrasting lessons gave me a clearer picture of techniques to use to build rapport with students, and generally involve the whole class, making it enjoyable, which is what learning another language should be!
