Learning previously about present tenses helped to better my understanding of past tenses taught in this unit. For example, present simple and past simple can be used as factual statements - present is true now, "I like broccoli," and the past tense describes a completed action, eg. "she cooked dinner." Present perfect and past perfect - present perfect describes an action that happened in an unspecified time in the past, for example "I have been to London," whereas past perfect describes an action that was completed some time in the past, eg. "She had eaten the entire pie." By comparing the present and past tenses I can see how they are related and this has helped my understanding.
