TESOL Videos - TEFL 120-hour Course - Unit 15
This diary entry was completed after Chantelle finished unit 15. Unit 15 looks at different ways of evaluating and testing your students and the importance of doing so. Types of test covered include placement tests, progress tests, diagnostic tests, and practice tests. The unit also looks at the different external examinations students are likely to take such as TOEFL and IELTS.
This is what one of our TEFL graduates feels he has gained from the course, or a part of it, and how he plans to put into action what he has learned.
The way that I read and listen to anything in English is totally different than the way that an ESL student would read and listen to English. Therefore, lessons must be planned in such a manner that skills first language speakers picked up inadvertently are deliberately taught. This unit worked well to point out such skills, like scanning and skimming, which are necessary in order to become fully immersed in a language. I found the presentation of ideas such as these in conjunction with the example lesson to be very good in providing the methods which a teacher might approach teaching listening and reading.
