Because there are 4 different types of past tense, it is important to be able to break them down for the students. It will get especially difficult when students are learning the different continuous forms because they may be confused when deciding which to use for which situation. It is also important to teach the students the order of words when using the different tenses because it is easy for students to switch around the words when asking a question using a past tense verb.
