This unit discussed the advantages and disadvantages of using course books. There are two types of texts used in classrooms, authentic and created. Authentic texts are great because they help students develop confidence and are more motivating than created texts. How ever they are not made based on student level, created texts are made for students of a certain level but they tend to be less interesting. There are lots of things to consider when choosing a coursebook. The methods used, relevance, price, availability; and if a teacher decides that they are going to use a course book they must make sure that they stay creative and check that the lessons are relevant.
