Lesson 1 of the course discussed the qualities of a teacher and their roles. For me personally, the most important qualities of a good teacher are that they are good motivators, very entertaining and know how to correct student’s errors without offending them. A teacher should be a good motivator because without motivation no one can learn anything. If a teacher cannot motivate their students, even if a student is very motivated in the beginning they might lose their motivation along the way. A teacher also should be very entertaining because even if the student really wants to learn a foreign language but the classes are too difficult and boring, the student may quit. An entertaining class can keep students focus and interested even if the material they study is not easy. During the class activities, it is very likely that the students will make mistakes and even I believe that by making mistakes students learn the best. Therefore, I think that it is very important that the teacher knows how to correct these mistakes without offending the students.
The lesson also discussed the qualities of good learners. A good learner has the desire to learn, they aren't afraid to make mistakes and ask questions. If a student is from any Asian country, for example, is very likely that even if they have the desire to learn, they might be nervous about making mistake and not used to asking questions when unsure. I believe that this is a culture problem that the teacher should be aware of and know how to fix. A good teacher should be aware of culture and age difference of their students so he or she can manage their activities in a way that will suit the best their group of students.
