This unit examine modal auxiliary verbs and passive voice in detail, as well as a brief overview of phrasal verbs and relative clauses. In terms of modal auxiliary verbs, the modals are used to add meaning to the main verb and express different ideas such as obligation, possibility, permission, ability or advice. To deliver their usage with suitable teaching ideas in classroom, their basic rules and meaning whether when to use should be understand clearly. There are two voices used in English: active and passive. Although the sentences basically have the same meaning but the focus is different. Interestingly, intransitive verbs cannot be used in the passive. The overall form for the passive is: auxiliary verb ‘be’ + past participle. The form, usage and typical student mistakes should be identified before starting with the teaching ideas. Regarding relative clauses, there are two types: defining and non-defining. The commas places an important role in the meaning of relative clauses, which contributes to change the meaning for a whole clause. Phrasal verbs, which consist of a verb plus one or two particles, are complicated. There are three basic types of phrasal verbs: intransitive, transitive separable and transitive inseparable. Since phrasal verbs are best learned as vocabulary items, teachers should keep track of the phrasal verbs that have been taught and try to use them naturally during uncontrolled conversation.
