Through this unit, we have learned different ways of evaluating students' levels. We can assess students' language level from tutorials, evaluation by students and tests. Then, it mainly focus on tests, including placement tests, progress tests, diagnostic tests and practice tests. It also provides their respective definitions and examples, so we have known differences among them. For example, placement tests are designed to place new students into the correct class according to their language ability; progress tests are used to measure their progress through what language has been acquired; while diagnostic tests are given to students to test what they have known at the start of the course and practice tests should follow the structure of the external examination. After that, we have learned a variety of external examinations, such as TOEFL, IELTS and TOEIC. Eventually, also learned several kinds of Cambridge exams, like General English, Skills for life and Business English.
