This unit focused on material and course book selection and use. There are two basic types of material, authentic and created. Authentic material is great for intermediate learners to boost their confidence and give them exposure to real world language use. Created materials are great for all levels of students, because they can be adapted to the student's level, can focus on target areas, and can supplement course books where changes are needed. Course books are also important. They offer many advantages but also some disadvantages. The biggest advantage to a course book is that it gives the students a base to learn from and allows them to see their own progress. The biggest disadvantage is that it is designed for a general audience, so it can't address problem areas for students from every place.
