What I learned from this unit 'Course books and materials' is that teachers should rely on the coursebook less and be more creative with their activities based somehow on the coursebook language points and make the class hours more attractive by fulfilling the needs of the students. This can become hard for a new teacher but with a little try and fantasy, it is doable. What I remember from my 15-year-Englis classes is that our teachers would focus only on the coursebook and cover all its language points. No activities were included. During the university, we would watch time after time any English movie produced by BBC as it was part of the lesson plan, but that's all. It is true that extended use of the course book can become boring and predictable and also teacher-centred, leaving no space for the students to explore the language by themselves or even get to know each other. We have covered all the Head-ways course books. I agree with the points mentioned when analysing a coursebook; if the teacher would have to choose the book him/herself, s/he should definitely take those points into consideration.
