During this unit I learned the meaning of Phonology. Phonology is the study, science, analysis and classification of the properties of sound. I also learned that there are different types of Intonation. Rise/Fall intonation is used when someone is making a statement or uses short utterances when speaking. Fall/Rise intonation is used when the speaker expects the listener to respond or acknowledge what the speaker said. Flat intonation is used when the speaker is not interested in making conversation and does not want the listener to respond back. Stress in a sentence which put emphasis on a word which carries the meaning of the sentence. There are two rules when it comes to stress in a sentence. Rule 1 is that one word has only one stress, and rule 2 is that one can only stress syllables, not vowels and consonants.
