This unit covered two rather complex and advanced topics in English learning: conditional and reported speech. There are 5 varieties of conditionals (zero, first, second, third, and mixed), and each one is used for different situations. Some are hypothetical, others factual.
Reported speech is when a third person reports on something said between person 1 and person 2. While I understand the lesson, it is very unclear. Reported speech changes based on when the speech is reported (as said in the text). So when the lesson (and this test) asked me to use the correct form, it was unclear when that speech was being reported. It is a very unprofessional lesson.
