This unit focuses on teaching the productive skills of language - speaking and writing. It distinguishes accuracy from fluency, as both are important but should be the focus of different lessons. Accuracy lends itself to the study section of a lesson whereas the activate activity focuses more on fluency. Advice for speaking activities included encouraging students to speak, as students are often nervous or reluctant. I found the 3x3 drill to be very helpful, as it begins with the teacher pronunciation then the whole class together and lastly individuals, thus removing initial pressure from individuals. Writing skills include needing to focus on spelling and punctuation. Encouraging reading outside the classroom and creative writing will help students strengthen these productive skills. Lastly, the suggestions of incorporating games in the classroom is really great as it is interesting and a less stressful method of utilizing these skills.
