Reading and listening are important receptive skills in any language. Teachers should incorporate activities to teach these skills as well as productive skills regularly. Materials that the students are interested in should be used for teaching receptive skills but the teacher should generate interest by eliciting comments and asking questions. Authentic materials should be near the students language level so as to build their confidence. New vocabulary can be pre-taught to help students grasp relevant information before activate phases.
