I often forget that phrasal verbs are so common in English, and so complicated for language learners. I remember one particular student struggling with phrases like "Put it away" or "put it on top." If I understood this unit correctly, the first is transitive separable (type 2) and the second transitive separable (type 3). In the first example, the object pronoun comes only between the verb and particle. In the second example, the object pronoun needs to come after the particle. I'm not sure if this kind of grammar study would be interesting for my student, but it is great for me to be aware of in order to illuminate the patterns with phrasal verbs. The other phrasal verb type listed in this unit is the intransitive (for example: He carried on). In this case, there is no need to follow the phrasal verb with a direct object. This unit was the last in the series of grammar topics, and included an overview of modal verbs, passive/active voice, relative clauses, and phrasal verbs. It offered some useful lesson tasks for modal verbs, such as role play. (In the case of must or should, role plays at the doctor's office would work well.) For passive voice, quizzes or word unscrambling or changing from active to passive offers good practice. Relative clauses are really common, but often not taught until upper-intermediate level. I'd like to come up with some good strategies for teaching this. I didn't notice any tips in the unit. For phrasal verbs, it would be fun to play a game which requires repeating them like Jenga (push it in, pull it out, put it on top).
