Reading and listening skills are the two receptive skills which are necessary to understanding in any language. Within these skills are things like scanning, predictive listening or reading, etc. which can be used to quickly get at least a portion of the information. There are times where more detailed reading or listening will be necessary, but it is also vital to develop the skill of being able to acquire some information without thoroughly knowing or understanding each individual word. In order for these lessons to be effective, topics that will interest the students will need to be chosen, it will be important to choose material that is within the level of those being taught if at all possible, and then I will need to pre-teach some essential vocabulary.
