This unit dealt with the many types of equipment and teaching aids that can be used in the various ESL classrooms. The golden rule is to always remember to have a back up plan in regards to using technology in the classroom in case that tech fails in the lesson and especially at an important point of the lesson. Here in Japan the most common thing you will encounter in a classroom is a basic chalkboard. All other materials beyond the course book are usually created from scratch by the teacher. This being said it is really useful to print your own flashcards or prepare visuals in advance. In the JHS classrooms more and more there use of powerpoint is becoming available and it really helps provide context for the students. Visuals are one of the most important ways to get students motivated and relate the material to their real lives in a way that can help them see organic conversation in regards to new material.
