This unit taught me a lot regarding the use and effectiveness of teaching materials such as course books and other lesson materials. I've learned the differentiation between authentic material teaching (real-life materials such as newspapers, tv dialogue, etc) and created materials (materials created by the teacher for more targeted learning or curated to beginner learning) I've also learned not to focus too heavily on course book teaching as to not have predictable and boring lessons. In addition, I've learned to be encouraged to add or omit certain things in the course book if deemed unnecessary for the specific learning of the students being taught.
