This unit discussed some methods for teaching the receptive skills reading and listening, and the productive skills speaking and writing. Emphasis was placed on a balanced approach, where each component is included. Of particular interest to me was the segment on the various types of reading, as this was covered in thorough detail in a speed reading book I once read. Indeed the purpose for reading can dramatically change the way we perceive and process the information.
