In this last section we learned about ways to troubleshoot problems that may and most likely will arise when teaching a class. First, there are some benefits and disadvantages to teaching either a new group or an existing group of students. With a new group, it's a fresh start to the students and you, the students to students and the students to the material. But with an existing group, they most likely already know and are comfortable with each other, and may have already had experience with the material. Whatever the situation, establishing rapport on the first day is very important, so important that you shouldn't even look in the course text book. The first day should be getting to know the students, as they get to know you and the other students. With any new subject, students may not be very inclined to be the first to answer or participate, but as a teacher you must not force them or make them embarrassed by forcing them to participate. For the whole duration of the course, as a teacher it is important that you not only focus on one student who may have a problem learning, rather move on and perhaps help them after class. All in all, as the teacher with a short amount of time with the students, you must teach in an appropriate amount of time, clearly and receptive to each problem.
